chisel into a molehill. a mountain
of dirt creates a desperate valley
in the damp grass. cricket
(a baby one, tiny) dancing
in our bed. the world
so small. one man’s chemical
afternoon is another man’s
platinum attitude. or trash.
electricity divides the sky!
earnestly, i approach the bed
in the dark, eyes-closed, hoping
i know the way (cracked feet,
worn elbows) by now.

the proper name of air: the fish
tugging on the line. pflueger
medalist worn down. warned
down / it could break
a knuckle amidst local complications.
whatever simplicity is. whoever
it was first born to is no
matter. the shadows of fish
live as the fish do. this requires
concentration, careful execution,
and patience that peaks
at birth. slouches
toward sleep. carves a groan
into the why of tomorrow.
